Abstract:

Photographs documenting the aftermath of the Oakland-Berkeley Hills fire of 1991: an early rebuilding effort in the Hiller Highlands neighborhood of Oakland with some views of the broader burned region; early construction of Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center; and construction and dedication of Firestorm Memorial Garden. A few images depict collection donors, and Hiller Highlands residents, Susan and Gordon Piper. Most negatives (all of which pertain to Gateway) are duplicated by corresponding prints.
